Katsu in Japanese also mean “to win” or “to be victorious”. So Yabu: House of Katsu definitely won as the top Katsu restaurant here in the Philippines and has gained recognitions from different local magazines.

Going Gaga for Katsu at Yabu: House of Katsu

The kurobuta, much like the head chef at Yabu, is imported from Japan. The meat was so tender you could easily cut off a piece with a blunt spoon. Encased in it's golden panko crust, it was almost painful to have to destroy the beautiful arrangement by taking a piece, dipping it in tonkatsu sauce, and taking a bite. Well, it was painful for a second, then it was heaven.

Manila Pop Up, a marketing cooperative headed by Erwan Heussaff, Deejae Paeste, and Mike Concepcion dedicated to shake up the event scene in the country specializing in guerilla marketing, collaborated with Yabu: House of Katsu to bring us Kabukicho, a night of music, art, and food tasting for us to get to know more about Japanese culture.

The tonkatsu game has changed!

We've been filling ourselves with over cooked, dry and bland tasting tonkatsus and enjoying it because that's what we were so used to getting from our favorite restaurants for the longest time. We never knew that there are better katsus. That tonkatsus should be crispy on the outside and juicy and full of flavor inside.

Yabu: Revisiting the House of Katsu

Though I'm not typically a fan of ground meat, I can't say the same with Yabu's Menchi Katsu. When cooked with high quality ingredients and done right, a simple ground meat dish can taste so amazing. The meat was just so soft, so flavorful, so succulent, and encased in a crispy katsu breading. And while I'm already satisfied with just the breaded meat, the cheese makes it all the more enjoying. Just imagine the creamy cheese oozing out when you bite through the Menchi Katsu. Now, that's just total food porn!

Yabu Original Katsudon Set

Look how yummy and juicy it looks! And true enough, it's very juicy, flavorful and yummy! It's taste like other Katsudon but the difference is in the sauce and the tenderness of the meat. Though it's dipped in a sauce, it's not soggy! I don't know but I felt that the rice in this set is better!
